Teaching positions are being coveted by many individuals attempting to secure a job that allows for certain stability that other positions do not have. Furthermore, teaching positions seem to be some of the few occupations that are growing in today’s economy. The teaching positions will seem to depend on their availability, however, the basis of their needs seems to be misconstrued based on factors that are uncontrollable. The fact is, teaching positions are only available in accordance with the academic institutions who can afford them. Not being completely vulnerable to the wavering trends in the economy, teaching positions have suffered in so much that they are not being created in some of the areas and institutions that would most benefit from them. Overall, teaching positions are not only increase, but are steadily doing so to point where many more jobs will be created due to employment opportunities in the educational system. It has been projected in studies that the number of teaching positions currently being employed today will increase by an average of twenty percent in ten years. Such an increase is a considerable one, yet where those increases will happen in geographical terms is still to be seen. Urban cities such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles could greatly improve their educational standards by creating more teaching positions. In doing so, class sizes will diminish, and allow for more personal attention to individual students by their professors. However, such a simple solution is only as simple at first glance. Many of these urban schools simply do not have the room or space to accommodate class sizes as is; more teaching positions means more classes, and in most cases, it can not be achieved. Many teaching positions have also varied in terms of their level or degree of employment. As one could conclude, as full-time teaching positions increase, so will part-time, teaching assistants, and substitute positions as well. The positive aspect of this is that for some of those positions, one need not yet be a certified teacher to obtain them. This allows for a first hand experience for those seeking a career in education to see how they would function in that environment, and ultimately make an informed decision as to how this career would fit their goals.
Teaching positions and their availability may have declined in recent times, yet the positive outcome of this is that education is at the forefront of the country’s priorities. If the projections regarding teaching position increases hold true, that can only mean that more people will gain access to an education that may have not been able to do so in our time. This trend will hopefully allow education to be available to all people in order to provide for the opportunity of a better quality of life.
